It just takes time to discover scenes and compose them so they work for our mind and heart. A painter composes from memory, from scenes witnessed, from what belongs and does not belong, building exactly the picture desired. A landscape photographer must find the scene already constructed. This is part of the joy of landscape photography. It is the hunt. The sighting. The capture. I am not recording history but creating participation. This is the first part of my art.
Light comes and goes. Finding the right light is a greater challenge than finding the composition itself. One can wait for hours, days, weeks or months for the right light to arrive. Then there can be only minutes or seconds to capture the light. As an artist, I find joy in sharing the feeling that was momentarily there.
Emotion is what composition and light can create together to make a scene personal to each of us. Creating the emotion in a scene through simplification and enhancement is the most significant part of my art. It is my hope that you find meaning in some of my images and that you would find one or more of them suitable for a particular location in your home or business.
